Waverley RSL conducts a commemorative service each year on the Sunday morning prior to the 25th April thereby allowing members the opportunity to attend the annual commemoration march in Melbourne on ANZAC Day.
Veterans, current and former service personnel, accompanied by community leaders, the Hawthorn City Pipe Band and led by Bernie Dingle from the Light Horse and Artillery Museum, march from the RSL to the Glen Waverley Cenotaph (adjacent to the Monash Council offices) for a community service.
All members of the community are invited to attend. Following the Service all attendees are invited to return (many march the return trip) to the RSL for refreshments
On ANZAC Day a Dawn Service will be held at the site of the original Glen Waverley Cenotaph, Springvale Road (adjacent to Central Reserve), Glen Waverley, commencing at 6.00 am. This Cenotaph was erected by the citizens of the then-Shire of Mulgrave in honour of those who did not return from The Great War 1914-1918, particularly the seven men from the Glen Waverley, Black Flat and Notting Hill areas who paid the supreme sacrifice.
After the Service a traditional “Gunfire Breakfast” will be served at the Waverley RSL Sub-Branch to which all are invited to attend and for which a gold coin donation would be appreciated
Pre-amble address will commence at 5.45am prior to the Service at 6.00am
The Dawn Service concludes at approximately 6.30am, attendees are encouraged to enter the Sanctuary to lay poppies following the conclusion of the Service
At 10:30 am on the 11th November each year a commemorative service is held at the Glen Waverley Cenotaph adjacent to the Monash Council offices.
All members of the community are invited be a part of this Service, which is attended by local MP’s, civic dignitaries, local Police and emergency services, and local school representatives.
All are invited to return to the RSL for refreshments following the Service
At 2:30 pm on the Sunday preceding Remembrance Day, the annual RSL State Branch Remembrance Service is held at the Springvale War Cemetery and Garden of Remembrance, within the Springvale Botanical Cemetery. All members of the community are invited and veterans conduct a very short march into the Service area
